Boarding

Heavenly is one of the world's leading destinations for snowboarders, with an ever growing percentage of the resort's clientele preferring the ride rather than ski - a much higher proportion than at most other major resorts. Half of all North American riders currently take their main vacations in West Coast resorts. One of the first of the Tahoe centres to welcome 'boarders (in 1988), Heavenly has continued to invest in snowboard-oriented attractions, activities and events. In 1999 it added two new terrain parks, a new half pipe, and created a new post 'Snowboard Product Manager' in the resort's management structure. The resort owns two snowboard-only retail outlets in South Lake Tahoe. The two terrain parks are located on the resort's California side. Several additional terrain features are spread throughout the mountain and a pipe dragon is employed to maintain the pipes. A range of events and contests are staged throughout the season to help underline Heavenly's position as a 'boarders mecca. They include half pipe competitions and boardercross. Around 70% of Heavenly's terrain is groomed nightly, making it a carver's paradise and the resort has added a Bombadiere halfpipe grinder to its already impressive grooming fleet.

Apres Ski

South Lake Tahoe, where Heavenly is located, is an area choc-full of bars, restaurants and night spots, over 150 in total! Popular choices include The Pub Tahoe, Turo Pub, Mulligans and the Blue Angel Cafe. Nightclubs include Altitude in Harrahs. Plenty of unique watering holes, including Nevada's oldest bar and saloon in the State's first settlement, Genoa, located close to the resort's Nevada base. It's a rare experience to find anything indigenous but not native that's nearly 200 years old in Western North America and well worth the visit.

Facilities

Most of the winter activities that you can do in a top winter sports centre are available at Heavenly or in the South Lake Tahoe area. These include hot air ballooning, bowling, dog sledding, horse riding, bowling, cinemas, swimming pools and toboganning. There are plenty of things to do in the area that you can't do anywhere else, as well as most of the things you can. In the former category, a ride on a paddle steamer on Lake Tahoe shouldn't be missed, and a visit to Friday's Station, one of the original Pony Express stops may also be on your agenda as well as perhaps an authentic wild west town - Virginia City. There are also numerous natural hot springs in the area where you can take a dip. On the Nevada side of the Stateline you'll find that the gambling casinos have given birth to a major entertainment centre which brings in top headliner acts and shows alongside the thousands of slot machines.

Dining

With more than 150 restaurants in the South Lake Tahoe area, guests at Heavenly will find more choice here than at any other North American ski area. The vast selection covers most budgets and varieties of international cuisine. Among the many unique dining experiences possible in the area is a home-cooked Basque dinner, prepared by descendants of the sheep herders who roamed the valley below Heavenly in the era before that depicted in all the cowboy films - before cattle made their way out West..
