With the official arrival of summer, Canada’s only summer skiing resort continues to operate. Skiers and riders are still enjoying Blackcomb Mountain’s summer glacier after Whistler Blackcomb’s second snowiest winter on record.
Unlike in the European Alps where most summer skiing is concluded by lunchtime each day as their snow becomes too soggy, the Horstman Glacier is open to the public from 12pm to 3pm daily, with upload access at 11am. Upload is available via the Wizard Express chair at Blackcomb base, and then Solar Coaster. From Solar, skiers and riders will take a shuttle bus to 7th Heaven, where they can upload on the chair lift. The Horstman and Showcase t-bars provide access between laps.
The Whistler Gondola and Peak Chair re-open on June 30, along with the summer’s Here there are replicas of the Sky Cabins that will be placed on the new Peak to Peak Gondola, which is scheduled to debut in December 2008. There are also construction plans to view of the landmark project that will link Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains for the first time ever, spanning 4.4 km (2.73 miles) with only four towers.
There’s lots to do besides snowsports. The Blackcomb Base Adventure Zone is a one-stop shop for fun activities the whole family can enjoy. Westcoaster Luge, Great Wall Climbing Centre, Kiss the Sky Exhilarations, Amazen Maze, Acro Addix (a flying trapeze), Blackcomb Trail Rides, Spin Cycle Human Gyroscope and Space Ball are just some of the activities the Zone offers.
