A six day lift ticket for the world’s largest fully lift-linked ski area, the 3 Valleys shared by Merivel, Les Menuires, Val Thorens, Courchevel and several other resorts, will cost €220 next winter, an increase of five Euros, or a little over two percent, on last season.

The full price is payable by children aged 13 to 17 and adults up to age 60. Younger children aged five to 12 will pay €165 and there are small discounts for adults aged 60 to 74. Those aged four and under or 75 and older ski or board free.

Lower prices will be available before the main seasaoin gets underway at Christmas with discounts around 30 percent. Families can also save about 20 percent when groups of two adults with two children aged up to 18 buy together. Skiers and boarders can also consider buying a ticket for one, rather than all three valkleys, as each is larger than most other ski areas in its own right. An adult six day ticket for the Courchevel Valley for example costs €178.

France overtook Switzerland as the European nation with the most expensive lift tickets several years ago – although it also offers many lower priced options. The most expensive ticket last year was the Mont Blanc region pass around Chamonix charged at €250 for six days for adults and €200 for children aged four and older.

The lessening of prices for skiing in Switzerland is in part due to currency fluctuations and in part as many resorts have frozen price increases to try to increase their competitiveness. Most Swiss resorts also offer much greater price reductions for children and in some cases such as Villars, Gstaad and Zermatt, don’t charge for children at all until age nine or even 10.

Currently prices in Italy and Andorra are both rising significantly faster than France, so could potentially overtake France within the next five – ten years.
