Australian police will have a permanently base at Mount Hotham, Mount Buller and Falls Creek ski resorts this season and have announced their objective of cutting crime in the area to zero.
In a bid to further decrease the already declining amount of ski and board theft, the police will be offering an engraving service for skis and snowboards, giving an identifying serial number or the owner’s vehicle registration number.
"Victoria police are showing a decline in the crime rate at snow resorts, but the theft of skis and snowboards still exist and we'll be happy if we can reduce it to zero. Snowboards and skis cost up to $1,000 plus these days ... it is an expensive investment," a police spokesman told local media.
