Resorts have adopted a wide range of differing attitudes to 'boarding from "not here, no way" to welcoming with open arms. Saalbach Hinterglemm is in this latter category and, as a mark of their enthusiasm, they've gone further than most and banned skiers from 12 km (7 miles) of slopes which are reserved solely for 'boarders! This was of course the reverse of the norm and the result of a policy adopted in the mid-'90s to develop a 'Snowboard Circus' to attract the snowboard market. This means that 'boarders actually have more trails to enjoy than skiers, as all the runs open to skiers are also open to them. The resort has a fun park with half pipes and has even developed new instruction techniques in snowboarding on reserved snowboard learning slopes. A great choice for anyone wishing to learn or further improve their technique, the resort has a huge choice of nine snowboard schools.Annual contests include the Continental Open which attracts international experts each January.
