Off slope facilities in Wengen are largely restricted to the sports pavilion and ice rink. Parascending and hang gliding are organised above and winter walking is popular, with around 50km (31 miles) of prepared paths around the resort. Taking the train up to Wengeneralp and walking back is one popular excursion, although the thought of walking may not appeal to those who prefer to ski or 'board it, or just rent a toboggan.
Excursions by rail are popular, perhaps down to Lauterbrunnen to see the famous waterfall or on to the city facilities of Interlaken, or even over to Mürren to dine in the revolving restaurant at the top of the Schilthorn, made famous by the James Bond film, "On Her Majesty's Secret Service".
Most popular of all is the trip up to the Jungfraujoch, Europe's highest railway station, where there is an 'ice palace, (dog sledding in summer) but most of all incredible views over to the north face of the Eiger. The train stops by 'windows' cut in to the sheer rock face en route up so that you can see more stunning scenery.
